Summy uses on-device OCR and local extraction rules. Receipt text is not sent to a hosted AI service for understanding. Cloud storage is used only after the user reviews and saves a receipt.

Summy can organize confirmed receipts into trip folders in Dropbox or Google Drive. Each trip keeps its receipts together with a readable Markdown summary, making the cloud folder useful even outside the app.
